Big contrast between the designs over the last two days and todays designs.

The best part of going to quilt exhibitions is seeing something totally different when you walk around a corner … and possibly meet a friend too!

read moreA few applique blocks, and a few quilted motifs.
These designs would work in any two colours with good contrast with rather stunning results.
read moreA bit more colour than yesterday’s designs.
Today’s two designs are very similar, but with the positions of the colours swapped around.
This project file is a new recent addition to my toy box … but I am having fun adding more blocks, changing fabrics, though some fabrics are still plain.
I like the pale backgrounds … I have never tried using such pale fabrics in borders, but it looks very restful.

I love the applique block used in this design.
The first is my favourite, but I like both of them.
read moreThe borders around this one I think should be used closer to the centre … too delicate to use around the outside of a large quilt.
I like the second design a lot more, and it could be used as the centre of a larger quilt.
read moreIf you drive through a town in Australia and there is lots of wrought iron around verandas and balconies it is usually a town which had a foundry. A lot of towns have at least some, but mining areas have more on older buildings, even if the mines are long closed.
Once I started drawing quilt designs I went through photos I had taken of the buildings and thought the lace work designs could be interesting as applique designs with some modifications, and then they became quilting designs too.
Love the criss-cross in the centre of the first one.
There is still a hint of something similar in the second, but much more subdued.
read moreDifferent leaves, but the flowers are the same. There are several species of the Banksia shrubs with an interesting collection of leaf shapes.
My favourite today is the second one.
read moreEvery time I open this file I see old fashioned blocks in old fashion quilt designs, but I love old fashioned stuff. The cupboard which hold up our TV was made from timber used in a crate used when household goods were shipped to Australia from England in the late 18oos. It still has a bit of a lean to fit the dirt floor of the kitchen of the house I grew up in.
The lino floor covering I found in a kitchen drawer in the 1970s house we now live in is possibly a hundred years younger than that ...
read moreI want to add lots of quilting motifs to this project file, but am finding that less is better.
I haven’t got the right colour thread either … though most times I would use a colour which blends in to the background, but try to use more contrast on virtual quilts.
read moreI should have given notice that you need sunglasses before opening this post!
Simple colour scheme, some applique, and plenty of room for quilting. It doesn’t get much simpler than that, but the results can be stunning.
I love the second one!
Any pieced block constructed of squares and rectangles can be used as a quilt layout in Electric Quilt. This series of designs doesn’t have my usual variety of blocks as I wanted to concentrate on making best use of the assorted block shapes.
It has been about 12 months since I played in this part of my favourite toy, and I think I should start more projects with a wider variety of blocks, and irregular layouts.
Of these two, I like the first one, and love the second!
read moreI looked and looked for several minutes until I worked out what was different about the first design.
Finally worked out. It has 36 blocks … an even number across and vertically … something I rarely do in real or virtual designs.
I left my favourite until last today!
There is space for 25 applique blocks, but I left four of them blank for the quilting to shine, though there is a lot of space in the applique blocks in this design for the quilting to show.
read moreThe first design is neat and tidy, and rather pretty. I have used a multi coloured fabric for the beads, but they could be several different fabrics, scraps … or carefully selected combination of colours and prints.
This is one of my favourite project files … one of many to be honest … but it has been unopened for over a year.
There are over 300 block designs in the file, but only 40 quilt designs, but now that I have it open there just might be a few added in the near future … probably before you see these two.
The second design ...
read moreThere are some intriguing little variations of the basic block in the first design today, which I created to echo what happened when half of one of the blocks disappeared when added to the filler blocks around the blocks set on point.
The second design looks very busy, partly caused by the quilting motifs which would be more discreetly coloured in a real quilt.
Lots of fiddly applique in this project file, so I am glad we have fusible webbing and sewing machines, unlike when I started … we did have sewing machines, but many of us had yet to update ...
read moreThere are some weird and wonderful shapes in this project file, which makes it easy to design some very different applique designs and quilting motifs.
I like the second design, but my favourite is the first one.
read moreVery pretty, but it would be pretty time consuming to do the applique!
My favourite today is the second design, but it would also take a lot of time to make.
read moreVery formal and very pretty!
The second one is also very pretty, and it is my favourite for today.
